Dr. Janet Epp Buckingham
Prof. Dr. Janet Epp Buckingham has served as the Director of the World Evangelical Alliance Office to the United Nations in Geneva since September 2024. She previously served as WEA Director of Global Advocacy. In these roles, Janet advocates at the United Nations with national evangelical alliances, particularly on FoRB. Janet is an academic advisor to the International Institute for Religious Freedom and the Executive Editor of the International Journal of Religious Freedom. She is also the Co-Director of the International Institute for Religious Freedom (Vancouver).
Janet has a doctorate in Public Law from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. She is a Professor Emerita of Political Studies Law at Trinity Western University, in British Columbia, Canada, having served as the Director of the Laurentian Leadership in Ottawa for 16 years. She has published numerous articles on religious freedom law. Her book on the history of religious freedom in Canada, Fighting over God, was published in 2014. She is married to Don Buckingham. They have two adult children and three grandchildren.
